Flow chart of (common) DNAS / server connection errors and where in process failed: start: | | DNAS screen | | -402/-403/-4xx: "sceDNAS2_SS_INVALID_PS2" You are using a Modded or poorly emulated Console. DNAS is actually trying to perform it's intended purpose here! (keeping modded consoles offline). DNAS Bypass required if you get a -4xx error. This includes: = All modchipped PS2s = PS3 CECHC/CECHE = Old versions of PCSX2, mainly from WinXP's era (about 1.6 or lower) | | -611: "NET_DNS_HOST_NOT_FOUND" This error is listed as unable to find a suitable DNS entry to the DNAS server, but in practice is more of a General Networking failure. Can be caused by several things: -- Network cable is unplugged, or no one is there on the other end. -- NIC hardware failure (seem on some slims) -- DNAS server has crashed / is not responding at all. -- Emulator PC: Antivirus is blocking connection. Some AVs such as Mcafee may permanently block it with no way to successfully whitelist app. -- DNS server used actually really does not have an entry for DNAS. While this might seem like stating the obvious this can still easily happen, as somehow if normal DNS servers ended up being used, they provide NXDOMAIN as official DNAS is shut down. -- ISP captured DNS query traffics and redirected to their servers, which will provide NXDOMAIN. (Seen on Mexican ISP) | | -612: "NET_DNS_TRY_AGAIN" Likely the DNAS server is misconfigured. = Seen on Cristian DNS with non-responsive DNAS server program. | | -610: "NET_SSL" Either DNAS server is misconfigured, or your connection may be tampered with in some way. Typically this error has been observed with "double NAT" scenarios, including: = 2 LAN subnets to travel through before reaching the modem / WAN IP. (such as a misconfigured wi-fi bridge serving its own DHCP & different subnet, or a standalone router being used with a modem/router combo unit with router functions active.) = the ISP has your connection running under CGNAT. (which means you do not have a public IP) -- Try removing unnecessary hops in LAN (e.g. set DHCP forwarding on DD-WRT wifi bridge) | | -603 This error seems to be: The response from the DNAS or game server wasn't actually a game server. Could be a HTML landing page receipt, captive portal request, etc. Error has been observed with: = ISP poisoning DNS queries: via masquerading as the server you meant to contact and inserting their own response instead. (this is different from DNS traffic redirection) = Captive portal Wifi = Apartment building sharing a single internet connection to all tenants, each tenant connects to a VLAN'd repeater in unit. (was observed with a Unifi network setup) = "Secure DNS" setting on your local router (seen with eero SecureDNS). Same masquerading concept as above, just is done locally in your LAN. -- Try "nslookup gate1.us.dnas.playstation.org ". If a NX domain is returned, or server name is not from us, or otherwise an answer you weren't expecting, you will need to fully resolve DNS queries to the game servers before leaving your LAN. Resolving queries locally: run a DNS forwarder in LAN with manually added entries. --- on OpenWRT: under Network-> DHCP & DNS add a local DNS entry in format (without quotes) "/domain/IP" --- on DD-WRT: under DHCP / DNSMasq settings, in "Additional DNSMasq Options" add a local DNS entry in format (without quotes) "address=/domain/IP" --- You can run a DNS server on your PC. --- Emulator only: Add internal host entries under Network Settings, Intercept DNS. and set ingame DNS to 192.0.2.1 | | Select Online account, login | | "Connection Lost" (near immediately) Typically this is connection to game server failed, without really even trying. Observed with: = Game server has crashed / failing to respond and therefore not accepting connections. = DNS redirected you to a valid DNAS server setup; conversely DNS did not give an address that actually points to the game server. = ISP poisoning DNS query: You redirected the DNAS domain properly in your LAN, but did not do the same for game server domain. | | "Connection Lost" (after several seconds, possibly disconnect icon) Observed with: = Game server has crashed / failing to respond and therefore not accepting connections.
